«1636 – Their Last Battle»

Special exihibition May 22nd 2016 – September 4th 2016 at Rathaus am Delft in Emden (Ostfriesisches Landesmuseum Emden)

The mass grave from the Battle of Wittstock was found by workers in a gravel pit in the spring of 2007. It contained the remains of 125 mercenaries and is the largest and best preserved grave from the Thirty Years War in Europe. After four years of detailed and exhaustive analysis it is now possible to reconstruct the course of the battle on the 4th of October 1636. At the same time, a vivid picture of everyday life during the Thirty Years War has emerged.

The special exhibition «1636 – Their Last Battle» documents the events from an unusual perspective – that of the ordinary soldier and mercenary.

During the course of the exhibition will be accompanied by various functions and events.
